Spitfires Win Thursday Night Showdown in Windsor

Windsor, Ont. – The Flint Firebirds concluded their four-game road swing on Thursday night with a 3-0 loss to the Windsor Spitfires before 4,378 fans at the WFCU Centre.
Windsor’s Danill Vertiy would score the lone goal of the opening frame at 2:17 after receiving a pass backdoor from Mikhail Sergachev. Vertiy one-timed the puck into the net from the bottom of the left circle to give the Spitfires an early lead.
The score remained 1-0 until midway through the third period. From the nearside wall in the Flint zone, Christian Fischer found a streaking Sergachev in the center who made a nice move on Firebirds’ goaltender, Kyle Keyser before scoring to increase the lead to two goals.
Vertiy would complete the scoring at 13:07 by converting on a turn-over in the Firebirds’ slot and finding the back of the net below Keyser’s right pad.
The Firebirds were 3-for-3 on the penalty kill but were 0-for-2 on the man-advantage Thursday night. Windsor lead in shots 29 to 28 at the conclusion of the game.

Puck drop is scheduled for 2 p.m. (ET) against the Owen Sound Attack and special Halloween festivities are slated for the contest.
Trick-or-treating throughout the arena is on tap, adults and kids are encouraged to dress up for the costume contest and on-ice costume parade in the first intermission, a Scooby Doo Bounce House and other fun promotions are planned throughout the duration of the game. Children (12 and under) that are wearing a costume will receive free admission to the game if accompanied by a paying adult. (Limited to one child ticket per adult.)
