Flint, Mich. – Sault Ste Marie’s Gabe Guertler scored twice in the Greyhounds 4-2 victory over the Firebirds at the Dort Federal Event Center on Sunday night.
Dane Johnstone started the scoring with 3:15 remaining in the opening frame on a short breakaway, sniping the puck over Joseph Raaymakers’ left shoulder and into the net to give the Firebirds the go-ahead goal.
Flint would hold onto the 1-0 lead until Gabe Guertler scored his first of the night on the power play from the top of the right circle, 3:06 into the second period.
The Greyhounds would steal the lead at 9:37 of the middle frame also on a power play when Zachary Senyshyn found a loose puck in the slot and backhanded the disc into the net.
Guertler would score his second goal of the evening from the bottom of the right circle between Moran’s legs before Bobby MacIntyre found the back of the net shortside, from the middle of the right circle.
Mathieu Henderson scored the final goal of the game with 42 seconds remaining, top shelf, over Raaymakers’ left shoulder from the right circle.
