Firebirds Edged 2-1 in Owen Sound Saturday

Owen Sound, Ont. – The Flint Firebirds continued their four game road trip on Saturday night with a 2-1 deficit to the Owen Sound Attack.
Back-and-forth action throughout the first period would lead to a prime scoring opportunity for the Flint Firebirds as Owen Sound goaltender Michael McNiven would make two last second saves on Firebirds’ center Dane Johnstone. The period would end scoreless with Owen Sound leading 7-5 in shots on goal.
A goaltending duel between Firebirds’ Alex Nedeljkovic (Carolina ’14) and the Attack’s McNiven would keep the game scoreless through five-on-five play.
Six seconds into Owen Sounds third power-play of the game, the Attack’s Josh Sterk would strike first from the slot on a won faceoff draw in the Firebirds’ zone.
Flint would tie the game 2:27 later when Cullen Mercer buried from a Jacob Collins’ shot off the end-wall glass, making the score 1-1 with 6:29 remaining in the middle frame.
At 11:34 of the third period, Owen Sound’s Jaden Lindo attempted to put the puck on net but was initially blocked from a Firebirds’ defender. The disc caromed back to the stick of Lindo with a gaping cage to score the eventual game-winning goal.
Flint is back in action Wednesday morning against the Saginaw Spirit for the third consecutive road game for the Firebirds. Puck drop is slated for 10:45 a.m. (ET) at the Dow Event Center in Saginaw, Mich.

Puck drop is scheduled for 2 p.m. (ET) against the Owen Sound Attack and special Halloween festivities are slated for the contest.
Trick-or-treating throughout the arena is on tap, adults and kids are encouraged to dress up for the costume contest and on-ice costume parade in the first intermission, a Scooby Doo Bounce House and other fun promotions are planned throughout the duration of the game. Children (12 and under) that are wearing a costume will receive free admission to the game if accompanied by a paying adult. (Limited to one child ticket per adult.)
