Hamilton, Ont. – Hamilton’s Trent Fox recorded two goals and an assist en route to a 4-2 victory over the Firebirds at the FirstOntario Centre on Saturday night in Flint’s last contest before the Christmas break.
4:23 into the game, Connor Chatham scored his second goal in as many nights deflecting in a shot from Cullen Mercer on a play that was started by defenseman Håkon Nilsen, who earned his first career point in the Ontario Hockey League.
Hamilton tied the contest at 8:55 on the power play when Michael Cramarossa found Trent Fox on the right side of the cage, deflecting the puck upstairs past Brendan Johnston’s left shoulder. Niki Petti grabbed the lead for the Bulldogs by backhanding the puck top shelf into the net. Then, Cramarossa extended Hamilton’s lead at 12:24 of the opening frame when a rebound caromed off his skate and into the back of the cage.
Early in the third period, Benjamin Gleason fired the puck on net that Fox deflected past Johnston for his 12th goal of the season and second of the night.
With 32 seconds remaining in the game, Will Bitten saucer-passed the puck from the top of the right circle over a sliding Hamilton defenseman onto Ryan Moore’s tape. Moore perfectly directed the puck past Charlie Graham for Flint’s second goal of the evening.
Flint outshot Hamilton 24-22 on the evening and won 34 face off’s compared to Hamilton’s 20.
