Firebirds’ Forward Ethan Keppen Signs AHL Deal with the Charlotte Checkers
Flint, Mich. – The Florida Panthers announced today that they have signed former Firebirds’ forward Ethan Keppen to a one-year one-way AHL contract with the Charlotte Checkers.
“It’s a great feeling to be signing another pro contract,” Keppen said. “It has always been my goal to have a pro hockey career, so I am excited to continue my career with the Florida Panthers organization.”
Keppen leaves Flint one of the most decorated Firebirds ever. He finished his career T-4th in GP (217), 2nd in G (79), 6th in A (67) and 4th in Pts (146) all-time in franchise history.
“I would like to thank the whole organization in Flint,” Keppen said. “From my coaches to my teammates, all their help and support throughout this process helped to make this happen.”
Keppen returned to Flint for his OA year back on January 5th. He finished the regular season with 23 G and 17 A in just 42 GP. Additionally, he added 7 G and 5 A in 19 playoff games helping lead the Firebirds to their most successful season in franchise history.
“We’re excited for Ethan and his new opportunity in the AHL,” Head Coach and General Manager Ted Dent said. “He came back to us this year and immediately made a major impact for us not only on the ice but as a leader in our locker room. We wish him all the best in his pro hockey career.”
Keppen was a Firebird his entire OHL career. He was selected in the 1st round (#10 overall) by Flint in the 2017 Priority Selection draft. His best season came in 2018-19 when he scored 30 G and added 29 A in all 68 GP leading to a 4th-round selection (#122 overall) of the Vancouver Canucks.
