Team Blue Opens Training Camp with 4-2 Victory Over Team Grey Tuesday
Flint, Mich. – CJ Clarke and Maurizio Colella each tallied one goal and two assists for Team Blue en-route to a 4-2 victory over Team Grey in the first of four training camp games at Iceland Arenas this week.
13 seconds into the contest, CJ Clarke intercepted a pass in the neutral zone. While entering Team Grey’s area on the left side of the ice sheet, Clarke fed the puck from the circle, backdoor to Ty Dellandrea who easily redirected the puck into the net behind Garrett Forrest for the early lead.
Then, with 6:12 remaining, Team Grey’s Ethan Keppen head-manned the puck from the neutral zone to Kyle Harris on the right-wing wall. Harris buried five-hole past Evan Morrison from the circle. While tied 1-1, Forrest denied a quick slapshot from the left point from Team Blue’s Fedor Gordeev to keep the game knotted at one.
Maurizio Colella scored with 1:54 remaining in the first period when CJ Clarke dug a puck out of the left corner and dished it to Colella in front of the net. Colella finished the play to earn Team Blue a 2-1 lead.
With 13 seconds left in the opening frame, Jacob Collins found twine from the right circle, far-side, over Forrest’s right shoulder, giving Team Blue a 3-1 lead headed into the locker room after the first period of play.
CJ Carke scored with 13:10 remaining in the middle period. Colella made a skilled pass from the left point to a streaking Clarke, who scored on a backhand-forehand play over the right shoulder of Forrest.
Then, while in the right corner, Team Grey’s Jake Durham found Marcuz Gretz in front of the net, who rifled a shot past Aiden Pitre for the final tally of the contest. Team Grey was not able to come back as neither team scored in the third period.
Next up, Team White will play Team Grey at 6 p.m. tonight at Iceland Arenas on Elms Rd. in Clayton Township. All on-ice sessions are open to the public. Admission is free. The annual Blue vs. White game will be held Wednesday at 6 p.m. All fans are invited to attend.
