Firebirds Acquire Two Draft Picks From Sudbury
FLINT, Mich. – The Flint Firebirds announced on Tuesday that they have acquired two third round draft choices from the Sudbury Wolves in exchange for Zacharie Giroux.
Giroux, a Sudbury native, heads to his hometown for the conclusion of his OHL career. An overage forward in his final season on eligibility, he has appeared in 36 games for the Firebirds this season and has 15 goals and 22 assists. In 168 games during his OHL career, all of which have come for Flint, he has 51 goals and 90 assists. Giroux was named the fifth captain in Firebirds franchise history prior to the beginning of the season.
“Zach has obviously been a large part of the Firebirds for a long time,” Firebirds General Manager Dave McParlan said. “He was a huge part of the dressing room and was the captain of this team for a reason. With this move, he gets the opportunity to finish his OHL career playing for his hometown team and we get some nice assets to help us build for the future. We thank Zach for giving everything he had to the organization and wish him the best in Sudbury.”
In exchange for Giroux, the Firebirds received the Windsor Spitfires’ 2026 third round pick and the Soo Greyhounds’ 2026 third round pick.
The Firebirds will return to action on Wednesday night on home ice against the Owen Sound Attack. It’s a Buy One Get One Wednesday; any fan who buys a ticket to the game can get a second ticket of equal or lesser value for free. Puck drop is scheduled for 7 p.m. at the Dort Financial Center.
