Colts Shutout in Owen Sound 3 – 0
On a snowy winter night, the Barrie Colts headed into the Harry Lumley Bayshore Community Centre to take on the Owen Sound Attack.
The Owen Sound Attack opened the scoring early, as Gemel Smith would notch his nineteenth goal of the season just 2:09 into the first frame. Despite getting off to a slow start the Barrie Colts fired off 9 shots but were unable to solve goaltender Jordan Binnington. The Attack took a 1 – 0 lead into the second period.
The Colts came out in the second period trying to change the momentum of the game, but that would be halted when the Attack received a power play opportunity. With the man advantage, Steven Janes hammered home a slap shot from the top of the circle to put his team up two zip. Chris Bigras and Cody Ceci were credited with the assists. The Barrie Colts would be kept off the score sheet through the first two periods as Jordan Binnington managed to hold the two-goal lead for Owen Sound.
Barrie would come out hard in the third period trying to crawl their way back into the game. After a spirited scrap by Justin Scott and Stefano Pezzetta, it seemed to liven the Colts bench. The Colts poured on the pressure midway through the final twenty minutes and would receive two power play chances. It would be Jordan Binnington who would win this battle though, as he made multiple big saves to keep the Colts off the board. Cameron brace would seal the victory for the Attack with the empty netter at 19:52 of the third period.
For the second straight time in Owen Sound, the Barrie Colts would head home scoreless as they dropped a 3 – 0 decision to the Attack. Mathias Niederberger played well despite the loss making 25 saves on the night and was the games third star.
The Colts will now head south to take on the Niagara IceDogs Thursday January 24th at 7:00.
