Colts Grab Third Straight Win in 4-1 Victory Over Greyhounds
For their first of two meetings this season, the Barrie Colts traveled to visit the Sault Ste. Marie Greyhounds on Saturday night. The Colts came into the game with a record of 10-6-0-0 while the Greyhounds were 7-8-2-0 and were looking to grab their third straight win.
The Colts were able to throw 40 shots on net in their 4-1 win. Kevin Labanc scored two goals in the win, while Cordell James scored his 7th goal of the season and Michael Webster grabbed his 4th. Along with stopping 34 of the 35 shots he faced, Mackenzie Blackwood also recorded an assist on the first goal of the game. Julius Nattinen, Brandon Prophet, Rasmus Andersson, Ben Hawerchuk, Andrew Mangiapane and Josh Carrick all recorded an assist on the night.
After a scoreless first period, the Colts were able to get on the board in the second period only 1:38 in. On the power play, Mackenzie Blackwood got the puck to Kevin Labanc who put home his seventh goal of the season. Blackwood’s assist was his second this season, with his first coming last weekend against the Mississauga Steelheads.
Then, less than a minute later, the Colts extended their lead to 2-0 when James also put home his seventh goal of the season. Nattinen and Prophet had the assists on the eventual game-winning goal for the Colts.
With 8 minutes left in the second period, the Greyhounds would find the back of the net for the only time in the contest. Tim Hettinger grabbed his 4th goal of the season with Blake Speers who had the assist to make it 2-1. The Colts outshot the Greyhounds 19 to 11 in the middle 20 minutes.
The third period would see both teams go even with their shots, each firing 10 shots on net, but the Colts would solidify their lead putting home two more goals.
Nearly five minutes into the third period, the Colts would make it 3-1 when Webster would find the back of the net. Andersson and Hawerchuk assisted on Webster’s goal. Four minutes later, Labanc would score his second goal of the game to give the Colts a 3-goal lead just before the halfway mark of the third period. Mangiapane and Carrick grabbed the assists on the Colts final goal. Mangiapane’s assist would extend his point streak to 9 games, dating back to October 17th.
The Colts were 50% on the power play in Saturday’s game going 1 for 2 and held the Greyhounds to 0 for 5 on the night. So far, the Colts are undefeated in November, with a 3-0 record.
