Colts crunch 67’s

The final night of a three-in-three is never easy.
But with two points on the line tonight, and a week-long break starting tomorrow, the Barrie Colts pulled it together.
Strong goaltending and production from the top line helped the Colts defeat the Ottawa 67’s 3-1 on Saturday night.
“We were a bit tired, but we also realized it was our last game before the holidays here, so we gave it all we could,” said Colts defenceman Josh Carrick.
The Colts also recognized their billets before the game in a ceremony.
Perhaps Barrie thought it would be even longer, because it didn’t get going on the ice for most of the first period.
But the Colts and 67’s were scoreless after 20 minutes thanks in large part to the strong play of goalie Mackenzie Blackwood, who kept Ottawa off of the board with some solid saves.
First, the draft-eligible netminder turned aside Nathan Todd after he got a pass to break in alone, and then Blackwood followed 67’s star Travis Konecny across the slot to turn aside a high-speed deke attempt.
“I think in the first period, we were leaving Blackie out to dry a little bit,” Carrick said. “Blackie’s been outstanding for the whole first half of the season.”
