Colts Close Out Season With 3-2 Win Over IceDogs
The Barrie Colts welcomed the Niagara Icedogs to the Barrie Molson Centre in what was the regular season finale for both teams. The Colts closed out the regular season on a positive note as they went on to win by a final score of 3-2 over the Icedogs.
In the first period, Colts forward Justin Scott opened the scoring by potting his fourth of the season by Icedogs goaltender, Brent Moran. His line mates Dylan Corson and Cody Brown got the assists on the goal.
Just seconds later, Colts forward Erik Bradford notched his 18th goal of the season to increase the Colts lead to 2-0. He skated hard to the net and jammed home a loose puck that came off a wrist shot by Brendan Lemieux.
The Icedogs responded late in the period as Shayne Rover wired a slap shot that just squeaked through Colts goaltender, Alex Fotinos. The goal by Rover came on the power play with assists from Ondrej Kopta and Tyler Mort.
The Colts would add to their lead in the second period courtesy of the power play. With the Colts having a two man advantage, Andreas Athanasiou scored to give the Colts a 3-1 lead. Cody Brown initially fanned on a wrist shot opportunity in the slot but he recovered the puck and made a quick pass to Athanasiou who snapped it home.
Niagara closed the Colts lead to one as Mack Lemmon scored late in the second period with Jesse Graham registering the lone assist on the goal.
The third period saw plenty of scoring chances for both sides but the Barrie Colts hung on for the 3-2 victory. Alex Fotinos put forth a solid effort and earned the win, making 32 saves on the night. The Colts also finished the season with the best home record in the OHL going 27-5-1-1.
The Barrie Colts will open the 2013 playoffs at the Barrie Molson Centre on Mar. 21 with their opponent yet to be determined.
