COLTS AND WOLVES SKATE TO A 5-5 TIE
The Barrie Colts made a nice comeback in Sudbury Friday night, only to
have the favour returned by the Wolves who scored with 28 seconds
remaining to salvage a 5-5 tie.
It was Barrie's second tie of the pre-season as the Colts go
undefeated in exhibition play with four wins and two draws.
Much like the Colts last road game in Guelph, Barrie had a great
chance to win it in the dying seconds as Victor Terreri was in all
alone but was denied by Wolves goalie Brandon O'niell.
Barrie scored twice quickly in the third period to take their first
lead of the game after trailing 3-1 in the first period.
A myriad of third-period penalties by the Colts gave the Wolves ample
opportunity to equalize the game.
Finally, with 28 seconds to go Frank Schumaker fired a seeing-eye-shot
in to the top corner beating Mathias Niederberger. The only goal the
Colts goalie would surrender after he was forced to replace Clint
Windsor who was ejected after a fight with Wolves forward Lacroix.
Schumaker's tying goal was the 50th shot on net for the Wolves, who
have put up 99 shots in their last two games.
Barrie got off to a quick start when Eric Locke put the Colts on the
board from Dylan Smoskowitz and John Padulo.
Then the Wolves power play took over, scoring three straight to take a
3-1 lead.
Before the opening period came to a close Colts forward Colin Behenna
scored short-handed to make it a one-goal game, Brandon Devlin picked
up the assist.
Ryan Hanes and Behenna scored for their respective clubs in the second
period to make it 4-3 Wolves after 40 minutes.
Chris Buonomo blasted a shot past O'Neill early in the third to tie
the game at four. It was Buonomo's second point of the night playing
in front of family and friends.
Shortly thereafter Tanner Pearson and Behenna set up Zach Hall for the
Colts fifth goal of the night, silencing the Sudbury crowd.
Behenna led the way for Barrie with two goals and an assist. Pearson
had two assists and Alex Yuill picked up another point.
Barrie will now wait until next Thursday before the regular season
home opener against Kingston.
Aaron Ekblad sat out along with Norm Ezekiel and Reid McNeill, who
returned from Pittsburgh Penguins rookie camp on Thursday.
Five more Colts remain at NHL camps; Scheifele, Telegin, Sutch,
Lepkowski and Beyers.
