BRAMPTON 4, BARRIE 3
The Barrie Colts made a nice third period comeback at the Powerade Centre in Brampton Friday night, only to have the Battalion mount a comeback of their own and eventually defeat the Colts 4-3.
Gregg Sutch, Zach Hall and Mark Scheifele all scored for Barrie. Scheifele scored his first of the season and also added an assist as he now has four points in two games.
Brampton took a 2-0 lead with goals in each of the first two periods. Lane scored the only goal of the first period and then Sam Carrick scored his first of two on the evening 1:58 in to the second frame.
The Colts would cut the lead in half when Sutch shoveled one home on the power play from Scheifele and Reid McNeill. Sutch has now scored in back to back games since being teamed up with Scheifele.
Barrie came out flying in the third period and tied the game at the 10:47 mark when Zach Hall tipped home a Colin Behenna shot. Behenna extended his point streak to 13 games and has a point in each game this year, Brampton native Brandon Devlin picked up the second assist.
Less than a minute later Ivan Telegin hit Scheifele with a perfect pass and the center stopped on a dime to elude the Brampton defender and then sniped his first of the year past Matej Machovsky. Sutch also assisted as he finished with two points on the night.
The Colts lead didn’t last long, as only 56 seconds later Brampton would tie the game on Carrick’s second of the game as he tipped the puck past Mathias Niederberger on a goal that needed to be reviewed.
Just 61 seconds later Brampton regained the lead on Brandon Robinson’s second of the season.
The teams combined to score four goals in 2:54 in the third period. Barrie put on a flurry at the end of the game but Machovsky held them at bay and the Colts dropped their second game of the week.
The Colts host the Windsor Spitfires at the BMC Saturday night at 7:30 p.m.
