Fronts Offense Takes Down the Colts 6-4
The strong line of Jason Robertson, Brett Neumann and recent addition Cliff Pu would put up 12 points altogether leading the Kingston Frontenacs to a 6-4 victory over the Barrie Colts Saturday night.
After coming into the third period tied at 4, Linus Nyman would score early on the period for the game winner and Cliff Pu would add the insurance marker for the hat trick taking the win.
It would an exciting opening twenty minutes, the Colts would come out of the gate strong getting the scoring start first.
While maintaining possession in the Frontenacs end Jaden Peca would skate out from the corner and find Ryan Suzuki alone in the right circle. He’d quickily snap one off the left post past Kingston starter Brendan Bonnello for his 7th of the season to give the Colts the early lead.
Just three minutes later the Frontenacs would respond. Ted Nichol skating into the Barrie zone would snap a low shot that would be deflected in front of Lazarev going through the five hole to knot things up at 1.
Nearing the midway point of the first the Fronts would keep the pressure coming. Robertson would find Neumann alone in the slot for the one timer, Lazarev would make the first save, but the rebound would trickle to his right for Pu to tap in the go ahead goal.
The goals would keep coming and this time it was Barrie’s turn to answer.
While on the powerplay, Andrei Svechnikov would send a hard low pass to the goal crease right on the tape of Aaron Luchuk to tap in his 32nd goal of the season, also assisting on the goal was T.J Fergus.
Right as the last minute of play was being announced Luchuk would strike again.
As the Fronts would attempt to break out, Luchuk would streak into the zone picking off a pass and break in all alone on Bonello, sliding it between his pads to for his 33rd on the campaign giving the Colts a 3-2 lead heading into the first intermission.
In the second period things would begin to settle down a bit but just as halfway point of the period hit Kingston would get the tying goal once again.
Nyman would get behind the Colts defense and rip a shot under the bar to make it 3-3.
With just over four minutes remaining the Colts would regain the lead once again. Ryan Suzuki would skate the play into the zone, before the puck would find Jason Willms. He’d make one move around the defender getting one shot off, before banging in his own rebound past Bonello for his 20th goal of the season. Peca would register his second helper of the game on the play.
An unfortunate bounce would allow Kingston to come right back. Lazarev would attempt to block Pu’s centering pass in front with his stick, the puck would deflect into the air off a Barrie defender and over Lazarev’s shoulder to knot things up again at 4.
In the early minutes of the third the Colts would get down a man. With the Fronts on the powerplay Pu would make a cross ice feed for Nyman, one timing it just through the pads of Lazarev to take the lead.
At 8:30, the Fronts would increase their lead to two. Neumann would send a shot on a goal from the slot, Lazarev would make the save but once again Pu would be on the doorstep to bang in his third of game.
With two minutes remaining the Colts would add the extra attacker, but would have no luck as Bonello would shut the door.
The Colts will be back in action Thursday January 11th as the Sudbury Wolves come to town.
