Videotron Player of the Week | Pier-Olivier Roy (Dec. 18, 2023)
The final Videotron Player of the Week before the QMJHL holiday break is defenseman Pier-Olivier Roy of the Victoriaville Tigres. In a pair of home games, the 19-year-old from Adstock, Quebec scored three times and added four assists as the Tigres went 2-0 on the week.
On Friday night, Roy assisted on the Tigres’ opening goal before scoring the eventual game winner early in the third period of an eventual 6-4 Victoriaville victory over the Shawinigan Cataractes. The fourth-year veteran, who finished the evening with a +5 rating, was named the game’s first star.
Roy would be named second star on Saturday afternoon, heading into the holiday break in fine style. His two goal, three assist performance, the first five-point game of his QMJHL career, included an assist on the eventual game winner as the Tigres won its third straight with a 8-5 decision over the Rimouski Oceanic.
Roy was originally drafted by the Tigres in the first round, seventh overall, at the 2020 QMJHL Draft. His 26 points in 31 games places him sixth among all league blueliners entering the break.
