Videotron Player of the Week | Maxim Massé (October 23, 2023)
The QMJHL’s latest Videotron Player of the Week is winger Maxim Massé of the Chicoutimi Saguenéens. In three games, the 17-year-old from Rimouski, Quebec scored six goals and added two assists, while the Saguenéens went 2-1-0-0 on the week.
Last Thursday night at home, Massé sniped both the game-winning and insurance goals in an eventual 4-2 Chicoutimi triumph over the Rimouski Oceanic. For his efforts, Massé, who also finished the game with a +1 rating, was named the game’s first star.
Back at home on Saturday afternoon, the second-year forward would be named the game’s second star and the Sags would earn a point for the fifth straight contest thanks to a 5-3 victory over the Shawinigan Cataractes. This time, Massé scored a key marker in the last minute of the second period that gave his club a lead it would not relinquish. He also added an empty netter and an assist before the final buzzer.
Travelling to Baie-Comeau on Sunday afternoon, Massé would record his third straight multi-point game. Though his Saguenéens would fall to the league-leading Drakkar in a 6-5 decision, the shifty forward would be named the game’s second star following another two-goal, one assist performance.
Drafted third overall at the 2022 QMJHL Entry Draft, Massé currently sits tied for seventh in the league scoring race with 17 points in 12 games. The reigning QMJHL and CHL Rookie of the Year, he will be eligible for selection at the 2024 NHL Draft.
