Around the Q: December 9, 2016
Things are starting to move as we end week 11 in the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League. Trade rumours have started with the opening of the trade period on December 18. Meanwhile, nine players will be leaving this weekend to head to Blainville to participate in Canada’s junior Team selection camp. Here is a summary of the last weekend and week 12.

On Monday, the QMJHL revealed its three stars of last week, which ran from November 28th to December 4th. The Québec Remparts’ goaltender, Callum Booth, is the first star of the week. Booth won both of his games, allowing only one goal in each games and finished with a 0.968 save percentage. The second star was awarded to Alexis Gravel of the Halifax Mooseheads, another goaltender. In three games last week, the 16-year-old rookie had a record of 1-1-1. He finished with a goals against average of 0.88 and a 0.962 save percentage. The third star was handed to defensemen Vincent Lanoue of the Victoriaville Tigres. On Wednesday, the Canadian Hockey League announced its Top 10 Ranking for the last week. Representing the QMJHL, the Saint John Sea Dogs beat the three Quebec teams that were ahead of them to stand sixth in the standings. The Blainville-Boisbriand Armada is the second team to honour the Q, while it retains its ninth position. As for the Rouyn-Noranda Huskies, Gilles Bouchard’s club relapsed, this time to the tenth rank. For the first time this season, since the first week of the Top 10, the Shawinigan Cataractes are among the honorable mentions. Last Saturday, December 3rd, the game between the Val-d’Or Foreurs and the Charlottetown Islanders was postponed due to a boredom that occurred the same day. An electrical problem with the plane that was suppose to transport the Foreurs to Charlottetown, prevented them from arriving in time for the game, so it was canceled. No date has been set to replay the game.

On Tuesday, several general managers of the QMJHL traveled to Gatineau to watch futur prospects for the upcoming draft at the Midget AAA/CCM Challenge. In addition, they will be watching some recruits with the opening of the trade period that begins on December 18. All eyes will be on young player, Alexis Lafrenière of the Saint-Eustache Vikings, considered to be the top pick in the QMJHL draft in June.
