Our 20’s – Charlottetown Islanders
Throughout the summer, we’ll be looking back at the QMJHL careers of our 20-year-old players, who will be moving on to new opportunities next season. Today, we feature the graduating players of the Charlottetown Islanders.
Nathan Leek
Leek enjoyed an outstanding 20-year-old season, coming close to joining Justin Carbonneau and Maxim Massé in the 50-goal club. His 47 goals and 84 points ultimately earned him a spot on the QMJHL Second All-Star Team, while also allowing him to capture the Islanders’ scoring title, finishing 17 points ahead of Ross Campbell. What a rise for Leek, who was invited to the Islanders’ training camp in 2024 after a season with Leamington in the OJHL and a three-game audition with the Peterborough Petes of the OHL. In just one year with Charlottetown, Leek increased his point total from 39 to 84, convincing Ferris State University to offer him a scholarship.
Dylan MacKinnon
The fifth overall pick of the Halifax Mooseheads in 2021, MacKinnon enjoyed a successful 279-game QMJHL career, recording 61 points while playing for Halifax, Moncton and Charlottetown. After three seasons in Halifax, MacKinnon was traded to Moncton in the summer of 2024. A few months later, his physical and hard-nosed style of play helped the Wildcats capture the Gilles-Courteau Trophy. The defenseman then moved to Charlottetown after only two games in the 2025–26 season. A third-round pick of the Nashville Predators in 2023, D-Mac has signed a contract with the Providence Bruins of the American Hockey League for the 2026–27 season.
Tyler Peddle
Peddle arrived in Drummondville in 2021 carrying plenty of expectations after being selected second overall. He performed well as a 16-year-old, posting 35 points, and continued his development at age 17 with 41 points. Midway through the 2023–24 season, the Voltigeurs traded him to Saint John, where he spent a season and a half. Charlottetown became his home for his 20-year-old season, and he finishes his junior career with 152 points (81 goals, 71 assists) in 296 games. The 6’2″, 215-pound forward will play for St. Francis Xavier University next season.
