TRADE: Sea Dogs acquire two first-round picks and second-round pick for Cole Burbidge
SAINT JOHN – The Saint John Sea Dogs have acquired a first-round pick (Blainville-Boisbriand) and second-round pick (Chicoutimi) in 2024, along with a first-round pick in 2025, from the Cape Breton Eagles in exchange for forward Cole Burbidge.
Following the trade Saint John now holds five first-round picks and three second-round picks over the next three years.
“It was a tough decision for us to trade a player like Cole, but we’re happy with the return and proud of what he’s done here,” said Sea Dogs General Manager Anthony Stella. “We’ve added another high draft pick this year to go along with Gatineau’s first-round pick and we get two other valuable picks. Now it’s up to us to hit on those picks and continue to build towards another championship.”
Burbidge, a second-round pick of the Sea Dogs in 2021, totalled 19 goals and 31 assists for 50 points in 68 games this season, his first in the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League. The 18-year-old also attended the Ottawa Senators development camp in July.
