RECAP: Sea Dogs face elimination after game three loss
SAINT JOHN – The Saint John Sea Dogs were back on home ice Tuesday night where they hosted the Drummondville Voltigeurs at TD Station, with the visitors taking a 4-2 victory. Drummondville now leads the best-of-seven series 3-0.
Voltigeurs forward Justin Côté opened the scoring at 11:06, followed by Maxime Lafond’s goal at 16:29, creating a 2-0 lead for Drummondville. The Sea Dogs, struggling to penetrate Drummondville’s defense, ended the first period trailing in shots 21-4.
Just over a minute into the second period, Peter Repcik extended the lead for Drummondville to 3-0. Côté would score his second goal of the night to widen the gap to four. Drew Elliott lit the lamp for the Sea Dogs with a blocker side snipe at 13:33, assisted by Jacob Beaulieu and Pavel Simek, finalizing the second period, 4-1.
The third period saw Egan Beveridge, only 19 seconds in, set up Simek from behind the net, and he buried his second of the playoffs bringing the Sea Dogs within two. Despite the Sea Dogs best efforts at a comeback, the game concluded 4-2 in favour of the Voltigeurs, with the Sea Dogs facing 49 shots to their 21.
Patrick Leaver, with 45 saves, received the first star for his performance between the pipes, while Pavel Simek was awarded third star of the game with one goal and one assist.
Both teams go at it again on Wednesday night at TD Station for game four of the series at 7pm. Tickets for all home playoff games are just $10 and can be purchased at the TD Station box office or online at tickets.tdstation.com.
