RECAP: Sea Dogs early push-back fades in loss to Islanders
CHARLOTTETOWN, PEI – The Saint John Sea Dogs came from behind to tie the game twice, but ultimately fell 6-3 in the first of back-to-back games against the Charlottetown Islanders on Friday night.
Goal scorers for the Sea Dogs were Dylan Rozzi, Tyler Peddle, and Reid Calder.
Ethan Montroy led the Islanders with two goals, while Simon Hughes, Marcus Kearsey, Anthony Flanagan, and Ross Campbell also found the back of the net.
GAME SUMMARY
The Islanders came out flying with an early goal by Ethan Montroy, tipping Maxwell Jardine’s shot in at 4:25. Just 42 seconds later, a Sea Dogs turnover led to a two-on-zero break where Matthew Butler fed Simon Hughes, who beat Charles-Édward Gravel to make it 2-0.
The Sea Dogs mounted their first-period comeback at 13:13 when newly signed Parker Forlin slid the puck to Dylan Rozzi, who walked in and lifted a backhand shot off the post and in. With just 15 seconds remaining in the first, Ben Cross sent a breakout pass to Tyler Peddle, who sniped one far side to tie the game 2-2.
The Islanders regained the lead 33 seconds into the second period when Marcus Kearsey fired a low wrist shot through traffic past a screened Gravel. At 10:16, Reid Calder tied it at 3-3 for the Dogs, batting in Nicolas Bilodeau’s rebound out of mid-air. The Islanders responded just a minute later when Anthony Flanagan knocked the puck past Gravel, restoring the 4-3 lead.
With two minutes remaining in the third, Butler dropped the puck to Ross Campbell, who found the back of the net. Montroy sealed the deal with an empty-net goal, finishing the match 6-3.
