RECAP: Wildcats score late to sink Sea Dogs
SAINT JOHN – After a road win over the Acadie-Bathurst Titan on Friday night, the Saint John Sea Dogs dropped a close one 4-2 to the Moncton Wildcats at TD Station on Saturday night.
Less than three minutes into the game, after a Wildcats defender lost his footing at the blueline, Pavel Simek finished off a pass from Vince Elie to put the Sea Dogs in front 1-0. At the 11:10 mark of the opening frame Thomas Auger capitalized on a Sea Dogs turnover and buried his second of the season to bring the game back to even, 1-1.
Moncton grabbed their first lead of the game at 6:39 of the second period as Yoan Loshing got a stick on Julius Sumpf’s shot and redirected it past Sea Dogs netminder Patrick Leaver. The visitors maintained the lead through 40 minutes of play and for most of the third period before Joseph Ianniello picked the top corner for his first goal of the season to tie the game at two.
Similar to their first goal of the game, the Wildcats took advantage of a Saint John turnover and Vincent Collard gave them a 3-2 advantage with less than five minutes to play. Sumpf capped things off with an empty net goal to make it a 4-2 final score in favour of the Wildcats.
The Sea Dogs head out on the road for three straight games in Quebec starting Thursday, October 12th against the Blainville-Boisbriand Armada. Saint John returns to TD Station on Saturday, October 21st for a rematch against the Wildcats. Canadian rapper and judge on Canada’s Got Talent Kardinal Offishall will be performing live during the intermissions. Tickets are available at the TD Station box office or online at tickets.tdstation.com.
