RECAP: Eagles score late to down Sea Dogs 4-3
SAINT JOHN – The Saint John Sea Dogs dropped to 1-1-0-1 on the season falling to the Cape Breton Eagles 4-3 on Friday night at TD Station.
An early goal from Egan Beveridge just five minutes into the game gave the Sea Dogs the lead 1-0. The home team continue to push the pace for the remainder of the opening frame leading 7-5 in the shots department and 1-0 on the score board after one period.
Cape Breton got on the board before the midway mark of the second period when William Shields fired his first of the season past Patrick Leaver. Two minutes later former Sea Dogs forward Cole Burbidge jumped on a rebound and scored put the Eagles in front. Saint John was quick to respond as Eriks Mateiko put a wrist shot over the shoulder of Eagles netminder Nicolas Ruccia at 13:40. The Sea Dogs regained the lead with less than two minutes remaining in the period on a goal from captain Peter Reynolds.
The score stayed the same until the final five minutes of the game when Antoine Roy got his stick on a loose puck in front even the score at three goals apiece. At the 17:52 mark Lubos Stahon netted his first career goal, the eventual game-winner, as the Eagles escaped with a 4-3 victory.
The two teams will do battle again tomorrow tonight at 7pm to cap-off the weekend back-to-back at TD Station.
