Masters at home
October 29, 2011 – The Gatineau Olympiques (9-9-0) are not easy to overcome when playing at the Robert-Guertin center.
They proved it once again Saturday night, defeating the Huskies of Rouyn-Noranda (6-12-1) by a score of six to one.
If the Gatineau players played a good hockey game Friday night, they were strangely more dominant Saturday. In control of the situation for about 60 minutes, Benoit Groulx’s troop took the indiscipline of the Huskies to impose their own pace. They even scored three times on power plays – in 11possibility. They also bombarded the visitor’s net 36 times, while the Rouyn-Noranda has only … 19 shots!
Admittedly inspired by the pink evening against the breast cancer the Olympiques hit early in the first period. Jean-Gabriel Pageau (Ouellet) grabbed a rebound in front of Robin Gusse to give his team the lead. Mathieu Lemay (Houde & Mercier) then scored for the visitors. Tomas Hyka (Poirier & Soumakis), on a power play, and Pageau (Lafontaine), with his second goal of the evening. The locals retrieved in the locker room with a 3-1 lead.
During the second period, André Tourigny’s troop sank into indiscipline, which opened the door to the Olympiqies. Result: Alex MacDonald (Pageau & Hyka) and Alex Soumakis (Hyka & Poirier), both with a man advantage, increased the gap to four goals.
Soumakis, when there were only 20 seconds to play in the third period, closed the books with the help of a powerful wrist shot.
Francois Lacerte has signed a second win in 24 hours. He blocked 18 shots. As for the visitors, Gusse stopped 30 shots.
Samuel Courtemanche dropped the gloves against Simon Desmarais in the second period.
Midway through the third period, Tomas Hyka was hit severely by Antoine Quevillon. He was even thrown out of the game for this move. For his part, the # 71 did not return to the game
The Olympiques will play their next game on Wednesday night, while the Quebec Remparts will pass in Gatineau. The puck will drop at 7h30pm.
