Good for the moral
October 28, 2011 – The Gatineau Olympiques (8-9-0) benefitted from their return to rink in order to stop their series of four consecutive defeats. They beat the Voltigeurs of Drummondville (6-10-1) by the score of 3-0, Friday evening, at the Robert-Guertin center.
In a game that was bitterly disputed, the two goalies were very solid. On one side, François Lacerte kept his team in the game from the beginning to the end. On the other side, Domenic Graham limited the damage. The goals were difficult to score, but the Olympiques, were rewarded with their hard work.
With this win, Benoit Groulx’s protégés will breathe a little better. Especially since the victory was acquired against a rival of their own division (Telus-West)…
Towards the end of the first period, when the visitors were playing on a five against three, Jean-Gabriel Pageau escaped alone in front of Domenic Graham… and obtained a penalty shot. The Gatineau captain did not miss his chance, allowing his team to take the lead.
They latter increased their lead during the second period. First of all, on a 2 on 1, Alex Soumakis (Gagnon & Burke) – that was returning from an injury-, scored the second net of the Olympiques. Then a few moments later, Pageau (Régimbald & Hyka), with his second goal of the evening, tripled the lead.
Obviously frustrated by the turnout, Mario Duhamel’s team obtained several penalties in the third period. Gatineau, were enabled to score in seven attempts.
François Lacerte blocked 25 shots and his opponent, Domenic Graham stopped 26 shots.
Alex MacDonald, recently acquired from the Océanic of Rimouski, took part in his first game in the black and white uniform. The Olympiques will dispute their next game Saturday evening, at of 7h00pm, when the Huskies of Rouyn-Noranda will be the visitors. The Gatineau players will have the honor to play in their pink jerseys for this game for the Breast Cancer Foundation.
