Back on the Road – Moose visit Moncton & Saint John
2026-09-29
Your Halifax Mooseheads are set for another pair of road games this weekend when they travel to the province of New Brunswick for battles with the Wildcats and Sea Dogs.
The schedule to open the season is road heavy for the Herd with five of the team’s first six games being played away from the Scotiabank Centre. The Mooseheads have picked up five points in the standings through their first four games of the year and are looking for more before returning home next week to begin a six-game homestand in the month of October.
First up though is a rematch with the Moncton Wildcats who spoiled Halifax’s Home Opener with a 6-5 overtime victory on September 19th. The Cats have gotten off to a very strong start to the season by posting the league’s only perfect 4-and-0 record thanks to a pair of wins over Charlottetown and singular victories over both the Mooseheads and Sea Dogs. Three of their wins have come via either overtime or shootout decisions.
Halifax will look to rebound after their only regulation loss so far which was a tough 6-0 defeat to cap off a Newfoundland trip on Saturday night. They split their two games against the Regiment thanks to an exciting 5-4 overtime victory on Friday that saw Mateo Nobert score two goals including the winner in his first game with the team following training came with the Vegas Golden Knights. Oleg Kulebiakin also returned from Tampa Bay’s camp in time for the two games. The Mooseheads got more good news ahead of their upcoming meeting with Moncton as forward Shawn Carrier has been cleared to return to the lineup for the first time this season. He returned from camp with the Colorado Avalanche a week ago but had been banged up with a lower body injury while with the Avs and was forced to miss the Newfoundland games. Carrier was the leading goal scorer for Halifax last season with 37.
The Mooseheads and Wildcats meet on Friday at 7pm at the Avenir Centre.
The team will stay overnight in Moncton on Friday and practice on Saturday morning before heading down the highway to Saint John later in the day.
The Sea Dogs are a highly touted team this season with high expectations and have opened the year as the 7th place team in the CHL Top 10 rankings thanks to a number of offseason additions and the projected big second year for NHL Draft prospect Alexis Joseph. Things have not translated on the ice quite yet for the Dogs who have struggled to get into the win column early on with only one win through their first four games. They have also lost once in regulation, once in overtime and once in a shootout.
The Mooseheads and Sea Dogs meet on Sunday at 3pm at TD Station.
The next Mooseheads home games at Scotiabank Centre are scheduled for Thursday, October 8th (Student Night) at 7pm versus Rouyn-Noranda and Saturday, October 10th (Country Night) at 7pm versus Drummondville.
