A return to home ice results in a big win for the Herd
2026-10-08
Getting back to home turf proved to be a boon for the Halifax Mooseheads on Thursday in a healthy 6-2 victory over the Rouyn-Noranda Huskies.
The Herd were back at Scotiabank Centre after playing five-of-their-first-six games away from home to start the QMJHL season and made it count by dominating the rival Huskies for their third victory of the year. The game kicked off a stretch of six consecutive games at home for Halifax which will be the longest homestand of the season.
Colorado Avalanche prospect Shawn Carrier was named the first star of the game after scoring a pair of goals and firing nine shots on net. Carrier scored a shorthanded marker midway through the second period and added an insurance tally in the opening minute of the third period.
The Mooseheads got 25 saves from goalie Jack Fichthorn to improve the team record to 3-1-3-0 for nine points after seven games played.
Austrian rookie Paul Sintschnig had a big day overall as he was earlier named to the QMJHL Top Prospects Game to be held in Gatineau later this month and then showed why he is considered a big prospect for the 2027 NHL Entry Draft on the ice by scoring once and setting up a pretty goal that was finished by Oleg Kulebiakin in the second period. That tally proved to be the game-winner.
What a play 👏👏

Other goal scorers for the Moose included Malik L’Italien who stepped into one to snipe a beauty from the circle while Eddy Doyle sealed the win with a long-range empty net goal.
Overage forward Nathan Langlois contributed a pair of assists while single helpers came from Jayden Napon, Owen Phillips, Mateo Nobert, Danny Walters and Sintschnig.
Rouyn-Noranda opened the scoring 4:34 into the game when Antoine St-Laurent sent a shot off the end boards that banked off the back of Fichthorn’s skate and into the net on the power play. Halifax trailed 1-0 after 20 minutes despite outshooting the Huskies 19-10. The Moose offense broke through in the second period and rattled off five consecutive goals between the 2:03 mark of the middle stanza and the 4:28 mark of the third period to take a stranglehold on the game. Jeremy Jarret got one back for the Huskies with about 10 minutes to play before Doyle capped off the six-goal effort from the Herd.
It was a feel-good win for Halifax after several tight outcomes in the early goings of the season. The club had gone to overtime fives times – losing three of them – and was thirsty for a convincing victory in front of the home crowd.
The Mooseheads will be back at it on Country Night at Scotiabank Centre this Saturday at 7pm when they entertain the Drummondville Voltigeurs. Tickets are on sale now at Ticketmaster.ca.
