Remparts
Mathieu Lavallee’s early second period goal was all the Quebec Remparts needed to rest on, in a 3-1 win over the P.E.I. Rocket Sunday afternoon at the Charlottetown Civic Centre.
The loss drops the Rocket to 7-22-2-1 on the season.
Rocket goaltender Maxime Lagace said the Rocket played well.
“It’s too bad we lost. I think everyone did their job…”
Newly acquired forward Jessyko Bernard, said the team battled hard all night.
“That’s one of the top teams in the league, maybe in the country and we were right there. Couple extra (lucky) bounces and the game could have been ours.”
The team had a good effort, said Bernard.
“That’s why we only lost by two. Quebec has a lot of fire power but we battled for 60 minutes and that’s why it could have been anyone’s game.”
Quebec opened the scoring 5:22 into the first period with a goal from rookie Adam Erne.
Lavallee put the Remparts up 2-0 at 5:48 of the second before Ben Duffy scored his 14th of the season at 14:36 to cut the lead in half. Remparts’ Alexandre Comtois scored a powerplay goal at 17:17 to give Quebec the 3-1 lead.
Bernard said it was a good debut for him, after not being on the ice for about two weeks.
“Just trying to get the legs under me right now…but it felt good to get back out there, get back into the rhythm. It will only get better from here.”
Lagace was named the game’s second star with 31 saves as Quebec goaltender Francois Brassard earned first star honours making 38 saves.
The Rocket are back in action Friday night when they host Nathan MacKinnon and the Halifax Mooseheads at 7 p.m.
In order to win the team must play a full 60 minutes, said Bernard.
“We gotta play our game…we try and keep our game simple and when we keep it simple we’re going to win.”
Notes:
Out of the lineup for the Rocket were: Pier-Antoine Dion, Kelly Bent, Patrick McGrath, Felipe Corbo, Deverick Ottereyes and Alex Gallant.
