2012 Fan’s Choice Awards
The PEI Rocket Fan’s Choice Awards will be a tribute to the 2011-2012 edition of the PEI Rocket. Once again this year, the fans will have their say on which Rocket players should be recipients of the various awards that are up for grabs. Rocket fans now have the opportunity to vote for the recipients of each award. This will be done online through our website. The list of Awards that will be presented include:
• Rookie of the Year
• Offensive Player of the Year
• Defensive Player of the Year
• Fan Favorite
• Most Dedicated Player
In addition to the Fan’s Choice Awards that will be voted on, the following Awards will also be presented during the Banquet:
• Student of the Year – as selected by the PEI Rocket Academic Consultants
• Community Involvement Award
• Hardest Working Award – selected based on the plus/minus stats
• Mooselight Player of the Year Award – As selected by the point standings for the Mooselight Three Star selections
• Volunteer of the Year Award
• Leading Edge Award (voted by players)
• GM’s Award – Most Dedicated Employee
The Awards Celebration itself is a special night that provides fans with a chance to get up close and personal with the players as we pay tribute to the 2011-2012 award winners. Also, for only the second time in franchise history, we have taken in a special guest, former Montreal Canadiens and Boston Bruins Fan Favorite, Chris Nilan. Chris will be the key note speaker for the night. Nilan was drafted in the 19th round of the NHL entry by the Habs. He went on to play 688 NHL games, becoming a fan favourite as a fierce competitor, scoring 110 career goals and racking up 3043 penalty minutes. Nilan is loved just as much off the ice now as he speaks multiple times weekly all over Canada and the United States. Don’t miss this chance to hear how Nilan overcame huge obstacles on and off the ice, before, during and after his career. This year’s PEI Rocket Fan’s Choice Awards will take place on Monday, March 19th. A reception will begin at 7:00 PM and dinner will follow at 7:30 PM. This year’s Fan’s Choice Awards will be held at Murphy’s Community Centre.
