Tuesday May 6, 2014
Toronto, ON – The Canadian Hockey League today announced that defenceman Guillaume Gélinas of the Val-d’Or Foreurs is the CHL Player of the Week for the playoff week ending May 4 after scoring five goals and one assists for six points in four games played with a plus-minus rating of plus-3.
Gélinas helped lift the Foreurs to a seven-game series win over the defending champion Halifax Mooseheads and earn a split in the first two games of the QMJHL Finals for the President Cup against the Baie-Comeau Drakkar. Trailing 3-2 in the QMJHL Semi-Finals against the Mooseheads, Gélinas scored twice in Game 6 last Monday night including the game-winner while adding one assist in the 7-5 victory, then scored the club’s first goal in Game 7 last Tuesday helping the Foreurs win 3-2 on the road to clinch the series. Held scoreless in Game 1 against the Drakkar, Gélinas scored twice in Game 2 on Saturday night including the overtime winner with his ninth goal of the post-season to even the series 1-1 with the 4-3 victory.
Gélinas, a 20-year-old from Quebec, QC, is playing in his fifth QMJHL season with the Foreurs. The QMJHL Defenceman of the Year recorded 92 points in 67 games during the regular season and is tied for fourth in playoff scoring with 27 points in 19 games including nine goals and 18 assists.
