2013 WU17 Day 4 Results
The 2013 World Under-17 Hockey Challenge continued Tuesday with four games on the schedule that included four Canadian teams in action:
Ontario 11 vs. Atlantic 1
Team Ontario earned their second straight win at the World Under-17 Hockey Challenge with a big 11-1 victory over Atlantic.
Spencer Watson (Kingston Frontenacs) scored a hat trick as Player of the Game for Ontario.
Dante Salituro (Ottawa 67’s) was Ontario’s top scorer with two goals and two assists, while Michael Dal Colle (Oshawa Generals) had two goals and a helper.
Lucas Batt (Victoriaville Tigres) had the lone goal for Atlantic. Mason McDonald (Acadie-Bathurst Titan) was busy in the Atlantic goal, allowing five goals on 39 shots in just over 33 minutes of work and was named Player of the Game.
Guelph Storm prospect Matthew Mancina picked up his second win in as many starts for Ontario stopping 35 of 36 shots.
Ontario will face the host Team Quebec on Wednesday night with the winner advancing to the Semi-Finals on Thursday against Sweden.
Pacific 5 vs. Finland 4 SO
Team Pacific keeps their Semi-Final hopes alive after a thrilling 5-4 shootout win over Finland at the World Under-17 Hockey Challenge.
Jake Virtanen (Calgary Hitmen) scored twice in the first period and added the clincher in the shootout as Player of the Game.
Ryan Graham (Saskatoon Blades) and Reid Duke (Lethbridge Hurricanes) had the other goals in regulation, and Brayden Point (Moose Jaw Warriors) joined Virtanen as shootout scorers for Pacific.
Payton Lee (Vancouver Giants) turned aside 29 of 33 shots in regulation and overtime, then went two-for-two in the shootout.
Team Pacific can clinch a berth in the Semi-Finals against the United States with a win over Team West on Wednesday.
Quebec 3 vs. Slovakia 2
The host Team Quebec picked up their second win of the World Under-17 Hockey Challenge with a 3-2 win over Slovakia to keep their medal hopes alive.
Alexis Pépin (P.E.I. Rocket) scored twice as Player of the Game, with Vincent Deslauriers (Sherbrooke Phoenix) scoring the other goal for Quebec.
Alex Bureau (Cape Breton Screaming Eagles) finished with 25 stops in the win.
The winner of Quebec vs. Ontario on Wednesday night will advance to Thursday’s Semi-Finals against Sweden.
Sweden 7 vs. Russia 4
Sweden wrapped up a perfect round-robin at the World Under-17 Hockey Challenge with a 7-4 win handing Russia their second loss of the tournament.
