2013 WU17 Day 3 Results
The 2013 World Under-17 Hockey Challenge continued on Monday with four games on the schedule including four Canadian teams in action:
Atlantic 4 vs. Slovakia 1
Team Atlantic picked up their first win of the 2013 World Under-17 Hockey Challenge with a 4-1 win over Slovakia to improve their record to 1-2.
Kameron Kielly (Gatineau Olympiques) scored the game-winning goal early in the third period and added insurance four minutes later to claim Player of the Game honours for Atlantic.
Matthew Highmore (Saint John Sea Dogs) had two helpers apiece.
Mason McDonald (Acadie-Bathurst Titan) earned the win in the Atlantic goal, making 22 saves.
Sweden 6 vs. Pacific 3
Team Sweden clinched a berth in the Semi-Finals of the World Under-17 Hockey Challenge improving to a 3-0 record following a 6-3 win over Team Pacific who drops to 1-1.
Brycen Martin (Swift Current Broncos), Ryan Gagnon (Victoria Royals) and Jake Virtanen (Calgary Hitmen) had the goals for Pacific.
Joseph Hicketts of the Victoria Royals was named Player of the Game.
Finland 6 vs. West 4
Team West dropped to 0-3 at the World Under-17 Hockey Challenge following a tough 6-4 loss to Team Finland who picked up their first tournament win.
Adam Brooks (Regina Pats) scored for the Canadian side, which got two assists each from Ryan Pilon (Lethbridge Hurricanes) and Jordan Thomson (Kamloops Blazers).
Jayce Hawryluk of the Brandon Wheat Kings was named Player of the Game for Team West.
United States 5 vs. Quebec 1
The United States clinched a berth in the Semi-Finals of the World Under-17 Hockey Challenge improving their record to 3-0 following a 5-1 victory over the host Team Quebec who drop their record to 1-1.
Nicolas Aubé-Kubel (Val-d’Or Foreurs) had the lone goal for Quebec.
Julio Billia (Chicoutimi Sagueneens) was busy in the Quebec goal making 42 saves despite the loss.
