Chiefs’ Tyler Johnson Named CHL Player of the Week
Toronto, ON – The Canadian Hockey League today announced that Tyler Johnson of the Spokane Chiefs is the CHL Player of the Week for the week ending January 23 after producing 10 points in four games scoring two goals and eight assists along with a plus-minus rating of plus-3.
Johnson opened the week with two assists as part of a 6-1 win on the road over the Chilliwack Bruins last Tuesday, before scoring once and adding two assists as second star of a 5-2 victory at home to the Kootenay Ice on Friday. The Chiefs hosted the Kelowna Rockets on Saturday, with Johnson scoring once and adding an assist despite a 5-3 loss. His week wrapped up on Sunday in Portland with three assists despite a 6-5 overtime loss to the Winterhawks who sit just three points ahead of the Chiefs in the WHL’s Western Conference standings.
Johnson, a 20-year-old from Spokane, Washington, is playing in his fourth WHL season with the Chiefs. He currently ranks first in WHL scoring already establishing a career-high with 79 points in 46 games scoring 36 goals and 43 assists.
Gabriel Lévesque of the Acadie-Bathurst Titan and Seth Griffith of the London Knights were also considered for the award. Lévesque scored five goals and two assists for seven points in three games with an impressive plus-minus rating of plus-7, while Griffith had eight points in three games scoring twice and adding six assists.
