Three second period goals lead Canada over Slovakia at WU18

GRAND FORKS, ND – Canada used a three-goal second period to get by Slovakia 3-1 at the 2016 World Under-18 Hockey Championship in Grand Forks, North Dakota on Monday.
WHL standouts David Quenneville (Medicine Hat Tigers) and Brett Howden (Moose Jaw Warriors) put Canada up 2-0 before Boris Katchouk (Sault Ste. Marie Greyhounds) stretched the lead to three with 40 seconds remaining in the third period with Will Bitten (Flint Firebirds) gathering an assist.
Katchouk and Noah Gregor (Moose Jaw Warriors) were both added to Canada’s roster on Monday. Gregor collected an assist in the victory.
Canada did give Slovakia seven power play opportunities in the game, but solid penalty killing paired with 26 saves from Stuart Skinner (Lethbridge Hurricanes) secured the victory.
Canada outshot Slovakia 48-27 to improve to 3-0 in the tournament.
Canada’s next action comes on Tuesday against Finland in a battle of two 3-0 teams. The game can be seen live on TSN at 4:30pm ET.
