Otters’ Connor Brown named CHL Player of the Week
Toronto, ON – The Canadian Hockey League today announced that Toronto Maple Leafs prospect Connor Brown of the Erie Otters is the CHL Player of the Week for the week ending January 12 with 12 points in three games scoring four goals and eight assists with a plus-minus rating of plus-5.
Brown helped the OHL’s first place Otters win three straight games last week bringing the club’s record to 34-7-2-0. His week was highlighted by a career-high six-point performance on Sunday scoring twice and adding four assists as second star of a 9-0 win over the Windsor Spitfires. Brown also collected a pair of three-point games on the road scoring once and adding two assists in each contest including a 6-5 win over the Barrie Colts on Thursday, and in a 4-0 win over the Owen Sound Attack on Friday earning third star honours.
Brown, a 20-year-old from Etobicoke, ON, celebrated his birthday on Tuesday. Playing in his third OHL season, the Otters’ captain currently leads the league in scoring with 88 points including 28 goals and 60 assists in 43 games played. Signed to an entry-level contract by the Maple Leafs, Brown was selected in the sixth round of the 2012 NHL Draft.
Also considered for the award this week was Tampa Bay Lightning prospect Adam Erne of the Quebec Remparts with five goals and five assists for 10 points in four games, meanwhile Prince George Cougars’ forward Todd Fiddler scored five goals with four assists for nine points in four games.
