Oceanic’s Philippe Desrosiers named Vaughn CHL Goaltender of the Week
Toronto, ON – The Canadian Hockey League today announced that Dallas Stars prospect Philippe Desrosiers of the Rimouski Oceanic is the Vaughn CHL Goaltender of the Week for the week ending February 23 after posting a 3-0-0-0 record including one shutout victory with a goals-against-average of 1.33 and save percentage of .952.
Desrosiers set a new QMJHL record for the longest shutout streak at 243 minutes and 35 seconds breaking the previous record set earlier this season by Francois Brassard of the Quebec Remparts. Desrosiers set the record last Monday with a 31-save performance to claim first star honours in a 5-0 victory over the Victoriaville Tigres for his fifth shutout of the season. The streak ended on Wednesday when he allowed a goal against the Sherbrook Phoenix however he still earned the victory and third star honours with 23 saves in the 9-3 decision. Desrosiers finished his week earning first star honours against one of the QMJHL’s top teams the Blainville-Boisbriand Armada making 25 saves in the 4-1 victory helping the Oceanic win their seventh straight game.
Desrosiers, an 18-year-old from St-Hyacinthe, QC, is playing in his second full QMJHL season with the Oceanic. Selected by the Stars in the second round of the 2013 NHL Draft, he currently ranks fifth in the league with a 2.76 goals-against-average and has a save percentage of .901 while holding a 24-13-3-4 record for the Oceanic who are currently tied for third place in the QMJHL overall standings with 81 points.
Also considered for the award this week was Pittsburgh Penguins prospect Tristan Jarry of the Edmonton Oil Kings who posted a 3-0-0-0 record including a shutout victory with a goals-against-average of 0.57 and a save percentage of .974. In the OHL, 2014 NHL Draft prospect Alex Nedeljkovic of the Plymouth Whalers went 2-1-0-0 with a 2.35 goals-against-average and a .945 save percentage.
