Colts’ Mitchell Theoret Named CHL Player of the Week
Toronto, ON – The Canadian Hockey League today announced that Mitchell Theoret of the Barrie Colts is the CHL Player of the Week after scoring four goals and three assists for seven points in two games with a plus-minus rating of plus-5 for the playoff week ending March 31.
Theoret’s offensive performance last week helped secure a berth for the second seeded Colts in the OHL’s Eastern Conference Semi-Finals with two big wins to complete the four-game series sweep over the seventh seeded Kingston Frontenacs. Last Monday night Theoret scored twice and picked up an assist on the game-winning goal to lead the Colts to a 4-2 road win in Game 3 before closing out the series in Kingston Wednesday night with an 8-2 win contributing two goals and two assists as first star of the 8-2 triumph.
Theoret, a 19-year-old native of Montreal, Quebec, is playing in his fourth OHL season. Selected by the New York Islanders in the seventh round of the 2011 NHL Draft, Theoret produced 60 points in 60 games split between the Colts and the Niagara IceDogs this season and has eight points in four playoff contests so far this spring.
Also considered for the award this week was Brendan Leipsic of the Portland Winterhawks who scored four goals and five assists for nine points in three games against the Everett Silvertips in first round WHL playoff action, while Matthew Boudens of the Drummondville Voltigeurs scored six goals and two assists for eight points in three games against the Rouyn-Noranda Huskies in the first round of the QMJHL playoffs.
