Canadian Hockey League Announces World Junior Championship Contest Winners
Toronto, ON – The Canadian Hockey League announced today the names of the hockey fans that will be travelling to Ottawa on an all expense paid trip for two to watch both semi-final contest as well as the bronze and gold medal games at the World Junior Hockey Championship in Ottawa, ON from January 3-5, 2009.

The three Grand Prize winners are Andrée-Ann Bolduc from Chicoutimi, QC, Les Sydiaha from Moose Jaw, SK, and Normand Savoie from Welland, ON.

The winners were chosen at random from more than 500 entries nationwide. Contestants entered by visiting www.chl.ca and clicking on the special contest button. Fans were asked to complete an entry form and answer a trivia question about CHL Alumni that have been a part of the Canadian World Junior team. Three season ticket holder prizes and 100 secondary prizes of CHL merchandise from the league’s licensed suppliers were also awarded.

The CHL is comprised of the Ontario Hockey League (OHL), the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League (QMJHL) and the Western Hockey League (WHL). Fifty-one (51) of the CHL’s 60 franchises are located in Canada. The CHL is the premier development league in the world, and has produced over 50 per cent of current NHL players.

Over the course of the history of Hockey Canada’s program of excellence, which began in 1982, the CHL has placed a total of 528 players (of 577) on Canada’s national junior team rosters, which represents 92 per cent of national junior team alumni.

21 CHL stars are listed on the 2009 Team Canada roster including 12 from the Western Hockey League, six from the Ontario Hockey League, and three from the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League.
