Canada edges Slovakia 2-1 at WU18
IMATRA, Finland – Brendan Perlini (Niagara IceDogs) scored both goals, including the winner with 6:37 to go, to help Canada’s National Men’s Under-18 Team to a 2-1 victory over Slovakia on Sunday at the 2014 IIHF Ice Hockey U18 World Championship.
The win keeps Canada alone atop Group A with nine points through three games.
Mason McDonald (Charlottetown Islanders) had his second strong start of the tournament in the Canadian goal, turning aside 21 of 22 shots.
Canada will look to finish off a perfect preliminary round on Tuesday when it faces Russia; the game can be seen live on TSN, beginning at 9 a.m. ET/6 a.m. PT.
Canada’s National Men’s Under-18 Team features 23 players from the Canadian Hockey League including 12 from the Western Hockey League, six from the Ontario Hockey League, and five from the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League.
