Canada advances to Ivan Hlinka Semi-Final

PIESTANY, Slovakia – Canada’s National Men’s Summer Under-18 Teamhas advanced to the Semi-Final of the 2014 U18 Ivan Hlinka Memorial Cup following a 5-1 win over Slovakia.
Canada finishes the preliminary round with a perfect 3-0 record atop Group B setting up a Semi-Final matchup against the United States on Friday in Piestany (11:30 a.m. ET/8:30 a.m. PT).
Ethan Bear (Seattle Thunderbirds), Lawson Crouse (Kingston Frontenacs), Mitch Marner (London Knights), Travis Konecny (Ottawa 67’s), and Tyler Soy (Victoria Royals) all scored for Canada who won all three preliminary round games by identical 5-1 scores.
Jansen Harkins (Prince George Cougars) picked up two assists.
Callum Booth (Quebec Remparts) made 12 saves to earn his first win of the tournament.
The winner of the Canada-U.S. Semi-Final will meet either the Czech Republic or Sweden, who meet in Breclav, Czech Republic on Friday.
Canada’s National Men’s Summer Under-18 Team includes 22 players from the Canadian Hockey League including eight players from the Ontario Hockey League, eight from the Western Hockey League, and six from the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League competing at the 2014 U18 Ivan Hlinka Memorial Cup, Aug. 11-16 in Breclav, Czech Republic and Piestany, Slovakia.
