Yeomans named CHL Player of the Week
Toronto – The Canadian Hockey League today announced that Kelowna Rockets goaltender Derek Yeomans is the CHL Player of the Week for the week ending Sunday January 16 after recording two shutouts and a 2-1-0 record along with a 1.00 goals against average and .945 save percentage in three games last week.
Yeomans stopped all 18 shots he faced in a 1-0 shutout victory against the visiting Prince George Cougars on January 12. He made 18 saves in a 3-2 overtime loss over the Cougars in Prince George on January 14 and turned aside 19 shots in a 5-0 shutout win against the Cougars in Prince George on January 15. Yeomans, an 18-year-old from St. Albert, Alberta, is eligible for the 2005 NHL Entry Draft.
Mike Brown of the Owen Sound Attack was the OHL Player of the Week after posting a 3-0-0 record with a 2.00 goals against average and .933 save percentage. David Desharnais of the Chicoutimi Sagueneens was the QMJHL’s Offensive Player of the Week after scoring four goals and eight points in three games and Jaroslav Halak of the Lewsiton MAINEiacs was the Defensive Player of the Week after posting a 3-0-0 record with a 1.32 goals against average and .960 save percentage.
