Russell named CHL Player of the Week
is the CHL Player of the Week for the week ending Sunday January 23 after scoring five goals and two assists for seven points in two games last week.
Russell, who was also named CHL Player of the Week on November 23, scored two goals and added an assist in a 4-2 win over the Everett Silvertips on January 22. He added a hat trick and an assist in a 5-2 win over the Tri-City Americans on January 23. The 17-year-old native of Caroline, Alberta has 21 goals and 31 points in 46 games this season.
London Knights’ goaltender Gerald Coleman was the OHL Player of the Week after posting a 2-0-0 record with two shutouts and a 1.13 goals against average in three appearances. Sidney Crosby of the Rimouski Oceanic was the QMJHL’s Offensive Player of the Week after scoring four goals and eight points in two games and his teammate Mario Scalzo was the QMJHL’s Defensive Player of the Week after scoring a goal and five assists in two games.
