WINTERHAWKS TAKE GAME THREE IN OVER-TIME
KAL TIRE WHL WESTERN CONFERENCE
Rookie Brendan Leipsic scored 7:44 into overtime to lift the visiting Portland Winterhawks to a 3-2 win over the Spokane Chiefs in Game 3 of the Kal Tire WHL Western Conference Championship series on Wednesday.
Taylor Peters notched a goal and an assist while Ryan Johansen tallied his ninth post-season marker for the Winterhawks, who sent the game to overtime on Johansen’s goal with just 2:14 remaining in regulation play.
Jared Cowen and Levko Koper scored for the Chiefs, who now trail the best-of-seven series 2-1 after two straight losses to the Hawks.
Mac Carruth made 41 saves to backstop the Winterhawks to the win. James Reid turned aside 29 of 32 shots he faced in the defeat for the Chiefs.
The Chiefs will host the Winterhawks for Game 4 of the series on Friday night in Spokane.
