WHL HEADLINES – Tuesday Night Recap
REBELS BLAST WHEAT KINGS – Jared Walker (pictured) scored three goals and added two assists as the Red Deer Rebels hammered the visiting Brandon Wheat Kings 9-4 in one of three Western Hockey League contests on Tuesday, October 11th.

rRookie Matthew Cline also had a big night, scoring twice and adding two assists for the Rebels while Roman Wick also tallied twice and chipped in an assist in the win. Garrett Klotz – with his first WHL tally – and Tanner Gillies also counted for the Rebels while Andrew Leslie stopped 22 shots for the victory. The win improves the Rebels to 4-6-0-0 and moves them into third spot in the Central Division.

rCodey Burki scored once and added an assist for the Wheat Kings while Daryl Boyle, Mark Derlago and Luke Hewitt also tallied in the defeat. Mike Nichol made 26 saves but allowed nine goals in the loss. The defeat leaves the Wheat Kings at 2-6-1-0 and fourth in the East Division.

rIn other Tuesday action, the Kelowna Rockets extended their winning streak to six as they downed the Saskatoon Blades 6-3 in Saskatoon.

rTroy Ofukany scored twice – including the game-winner – while Blake Comeau scored once and added two assists in the victory. Liam Couture, Luke Schenn and Troy Bodie also counted for the Rockets while Kristofer Westblom made 24 saves for the victory. The win improves the Rockets to 7-3-0-0 and leaves them first in the B.C. Division and first overall.

rBlair MacAuley tallied a goal and an assist for the Blades, who drop their second straight contest, while Wacey Rabbit and Craig Lineker also tallied in the loss. Anton Khudobin allowed five goals on 36 shots through the first two periods while Kevin Armstrong made 11 saves in the third. The defeat leaves the Blades at 2-3-0-0 and fifth in the East Division.

rElsewhere on Tuesday, Michal Repik scored once and added an assist to lead the Vancouver Giants to a 3-1 victory over the visiting Kootenay Ice.

rMitch Bartley also tallied a goal and an assist for the Giants while Cody Franson also counted in the win. Dustin Slade continued his fine start to the season, kicking out 14 of 15 shots for the win. The victory improves the Giants to 4-2-0-1 and leaves them fourth in the B.C. Division.

rBrad Cole scored the lone goal for the Ice while Kris Lazaruk made 36 saves in a losing cause. The defeat drops the Ice to 5-2-0-1 and leaves them second in the B.C. Division.

rWHL ANNOUNCES SUSPENSIONS

r-Kamloops Blazers forward Kris Versteeg has been suspended for one game for receiving a major and a game misconduct for checking-from-behind versus Prince Albert on October 10.
r
r-Vancouver Giants forward David Rutherford has been suspended for five games for receiving a major and a game misconduct for checking-from-behind at Prince George on October 7. Two games of the suspension have been served with three games remaining.
