‘TIPS EDGE AMS IN SHOOT-OUT – Karel Hromas and Zach Hamill (pictured) scored in a shoot-out to lift the Everett Silvertips to a 3-2 win over the visiting Tri-City Americans in one of two Western Hockey League contests on Monday, January 16th.

rHromas also scored in regulation for the Silvertips while rookie Brennan Sonne tallied his first career WHL goal. Matt Esposito made 25 saves through 65 minutes of regulation and overtime, and denied two of three Ams shooters in the shoot-out to take the victory. The win improves Everett to 27-15-2-0 and keeps them 10 points ahead of Portland for the U.S. Division lead.

rIan McDonald scored both goals for the Americans, giving him six tallies in his last three games, while Carey Price made 19 saves through regulation and overtime, but was beaten twice in the shoot-out to take the loss. The shoot-out defeat leaves the Ams at 18-17-3-3 and they remain third in the U.S. Division.

rElsewhere on Monday, Libor Gadzik’s second-period marker stood as the winner as the Portland Winter Hawks managed a 3-2 victory over the visiting Spokane Chiefs.

rStanislav Balan – with a goal and an assist – and Brian Woolger also scored for the winter Hawks while Dustin Butler turned in a 35-save performance to claim his 14th win of the season. The victory improves the Winter Hawks to 21-18-2-2 and keeps them in second place in the U.S. Division.

rEvan Haw – with his first as a member of the Chiefs – and Chris Bruton scored for Spokane while Thomas Stehr stopped 18 of 21 shots in a losing cause. The defeat drops the Chiefs to 17-23-4-0 and they remain fifth in the U.S. Division.
