OIL KINGS TAKE SERIES LEAD WITH ROAD WIN
OIL KINGS EDGE HAWKS FOR THIRD STRAIGHT WIN – The Edmonton Oil Kings continued to roll in the 2014 WHL Championship Series, earning a 3-2 victory over the Winterhawks in Game 5 in Portland, OR, on Friday night.
Edgars Kulda, Griffin Reinhart and Henrik Samuelsson scored for the Oil Kings, who have rattled off three straight wins over the Winterhawks to take a 3-2 lead in the best-of-seven series after having lost the first two games.
Tristan Jarry turned in a valiant 37-save effort to backstop the Oil Kings to the victory. Jarry has given up just two goals on 92 shots over his last eight periods of play.
Paul Bittner opened the scoring for the Winterhawks, snapping a goalless drought of 121 minutes and 58 seconds, dating back to the first period of Game 3 in Edmonton.
Matt Dumba – with his sixth of the post-season – scored late in the third period to pull the Winterhawks to within a goal.
Corbin Boes stopped 27 of 30 shots for the Hawks, suffering his third straight loss after having reeled off six consecutive playoff wins.
The Oil Kings now have the chance to win the series and capture the Ed Chynoweth Cup on home ice in Game 6 of the series on Sunday in Edmonton, AB.
