Blazers Acquire Butler From Portland
KAMLOOPS, BC – Today the Kamloops Blazers acquired 19-year-old goaltender Dustin Butler from the Portland Winterhawks in exchange for 17-year-old goaltender Kurt Kramer and a 5th round selection in the 2007 WHL Bantam Draft.
r
rButler, entering his 4th season in the WHL, had spent his entire junior career to date with the Winterhawks. Butler calls High River, AB home and stands 6’2â? tall and weighs 169 pounds.
r
rIn 90 career games, Butler holds a record of 37-34-5-2 with a goals against average of 3.08, 0.894 save percentage and 6 shutouts.
r
rPortland General Manager Ken Hodge commented on the deal. âIt was obvious that we had two goaltenders here in Portland that wanted to be number one,â? said Hodge. âWe have made our decision regarding our number one goalie and that goalie is Kurtis Mucha. Dustin has played some good hockey for the Portland Winter Hawks and we thank him for it.â?
r
rKramer, 6’4, 179 from Surrey, BC, played 17 games of AAA Midget hockey with the Vancouver Rangers last season, posting a 3.24 goals against average and an .890 save percentage. He also played some games with the Jr. B Richmond Sockeyes and was called up by Kamloops last season as a 16-year-old, playing in parts of 2 games, allowing 3 goals on 20 shots.
r
râHe is a big goalie that played fairly well in the Everett pre-season tournament,â? said added Hodge.
