Winterhawks sign Zach Spurgeon to a Scholarship and Development Agreement
Portland, Ore. – The Portland Winterhawks are proud to announce the signing of defenseman Zach Spurgeon to a WHL Scholarship and Development Agreement.
Spurgeon, 16, signed with the Winterhawks organization after a successful 2026 preseason and training camp. He spent the 2025-26 campaign with the Northstar Christian Academy 18U AAA team. In 23 games played, the blueliner notched two goals and five assists for seven points. Spurgeon was added to the team’s protected list last season.
The Edina, Minnesota native is the son of Minnesota Wild captain Jared Spurgeon, a veteran of over 1,000 NHL games.
Following his signing, Spurgeon has been reassigned to the Brooks Bandits of the BCHL for the 2026-27 season.
