Winterhawks’ Hossa named WHL Player of the Week
Calgary, Alta. – The Bank of Montreal MasterCard – Western Hockey League Player of the Week is forward Marcel Hossa of the Portland Winterhawks. Hossa earned player of the week honours by recording nine points (4G-5A) in four games. Hossa helped lead the Winterhawks to a 3-1 record for the week.
On Wednesday, March 14, Hossa scored two goals in a 4-1 victory over the Spokane Chiefs. On Friday, March 16, Hossa recorded two assists in a 6-3 loss to the Kelowna Rockets.
On Saturday, March 17, Hossa recorded a goal and two assists in a 5-1 win over the visiting Seattle Thunderbirds. On Sunday, March 18, Hossa scored a goal and added one assist in a 5-1 victory against visiting Rockets.
Hossa, a 19-year-old, from Stara Lubovna, Slovakia, is tied for team scoring with 85 points (32G-53A) in 55 games played. He was a draft choice of the Montreal Canadiens in the 2000 NHL Entry Draft.
