Wheat Kings Claim WHL Eastern Conference Crown
Nolan Patrick notched his first career playoff hat-trick as the Brandon Wheat Kings skated to a 5-2 victory in Game 5 of the WHL Eastern Conference Championship against the Red Deer Rebels. With the victory, the Wheat Kings advance to the WHL Championship for the second consecutive season. Brandon has won seven striaght games at home in the playoffs and will face the WHL Western Conference Champion Seattle Thunderbirds.

Evan Polei responded for the Rebels to restore their lead at 2-1. Shots on goal were 13-12 in favour of Red Deer through one period.

Patrick notched his second of the game to tie the game up at 2-2.

Patrick then scored again to collect his first career post-season hat-trick with his third of the contest to give the Wheat Kings a 3-2 lead.

Wheat Kings forward John Quenneville tacked on his 13th goal of the post-season on a short-handed rush late in the second period. The insurance goal gave Brandon a 4-2 cushion entering the third period.

Nolan Patrick registered his fourth point of the game as he set up Kale Clague for the goal. Brandon led 5-2 in the remaining minutes of the third period.

The Brandon Wheat Kings held on for the 5-2 victory to eliminate the Red Deer Rebels and advance to the WHL Championship Series.Nolan Patrick was named the game’s first star as he finished with five points (3g-2a) and a plus-4 rating. Shots on goal favoured Brandon 31-26 while both Clubs went 0/4 on the power play.
